And Just like the roar of an engine was the excitement and buzz around an industry as we handed out the pre-owned auto awards for 2019.
The awards evening was held at a stunning venue in Sandton, with local comedian Jason Goliath as the events MC, keeping the guests in stiches for the fun filled evening. In between the laughs and applause, Gumtree brought in expert speakers from the automotive industry to shed some light on the current pre-owned auto’s market.
“Twice as many used cars are bought annually in South Africa than new ones, and the third annual Gumtree Pre-Owned Auto Awards have helped identify the best of the best through a panel of expert judges as well as close to 70 000 votes from South Africans.” – (Nunben Dixon, Head of Gumtree Auto),
The categories ranged from a Budget City Car to Large Luxury SUV’s. Our panel of judges selected these 2017 vehicles based on factors such as interior quality, standard features, durability, performance, fuel and maintenance economy and of course resale value.
A total of 20 automobile brands were nominated across 12 categories and while there were some clear stand outs from both judges and SA voters – it’s safe to say that everyone was a winner in the end. The nights biggest winner was VW for a second year in a row with 8 wins out of 16 nominations across both the judges and peoples choice awards.
Three years ago Gumtree began the Pre-Owned Auto Awards because they believe that they should celebrate the cars that people actually drive, and acknowledge that it’s their responsibility to play a role in helping consumers make smart, practical buying decisions when investing in something so important. Gumtree has seen their autos division grow rapidly with over 1400 dealers selling, more that 80 000 live car ads, and 1,5 million car buyers browsing for their next car on the platform. – (Estelle Nagel, Gumtree Marketing Manager)
With 80% of the car buying process
happening online, Gumtree is honoured to have so many South Africans trusting
them with their HUGE decisions.
