Things to Consider When Hiring a Band for Your Event

We may not be having many in-person events during the pandemic, but the time will come where things start to go back to normal. Part of being prepared to host an event post-pandemic, is knowing what to look for to ensure you hire the best band or musician. If you’ve ever been to an event with sub-par tunes, you know better than anyone that music can make or break an event. Here are a few things to consider ensuring you make the best choice!

  1. What musical style or genre are you looking for the band or musician to play?
  2. Is the music for dancing purposes, or just for some background ambiance?
  3. Will the band or musician’s personality connect with your guests?
  4. What type of event are you having? An 80’s band may not suit a 21st, but a DJ might.
  5. How much experience does the band or musician have playing live? Talent is one thing, but playing in front of large crowds is another.
  6. Does their price include all of the gear, sound equipment, and lighting they’ll want?
  7. Consider seeing the band or musician play live at another event before hiring them for your own.
  8. How much time will the band require for set-up and take-down?
  9. Consider your budget. You may want the best band in town, but unless you have tens of thousands of Rands to blow, this may not be feasible.
  10. Make sure you sign a legal contract when hiring a band or musician that includes things like cancellation fees, dates, set-up and tear-down times, and what is supplied for their fee. You don’t want any confusion with either party!

Now that you’ve got the knowledge, it’s time to find the best band or musician for your next event! Head to gumtree.co.za or your Gumtree app (click for Apple & Android).
