These DIY ways can help to make your shoes bigger

Perhaps you’ve bought a brand-new shoe and haven’t wore it in a while, or you really want to wear an old pair and just to see if it would fit. Fret not – there is a way to stretch and make your shoes a bit bigger.

The best way to ‘break into’ a shoe is to obviously wear it regularly but, depending on the design, some of them can prove to be a bit finnicky. No one’s foot shape is the same which is why some shoes are a better fit than others – think Converse All Star or pumps.

Gumtree lists a few ways to make your old or new shoes a bit bigger:

Freeze it overnight

It might seem strange but putting your shoe in the freezer overnight with a bottle of water in it will effectively make it bigger. Water expands when it is frozen, widening the bottle and thus expanding each side of the shoe allowing for more room.

Use a hair dryer

This peculiar method involves:

  1. Put on a thick pair of socks and squeeze them into the not so big shoes.
  2. This is where the hairdryer comes in. Use the hot air to blow across the surface of the shoe and where it is a bit tight – while moving your toes around in the process.
  3. Remove the socks and allow for the material to cool. If it’s still a tight fit, repeat the process.

Wear them at night

It’s natural that feet swells during the day and especially on hot days – making them bigger. Wear the pair of shoes you want your foot to fit into in the evening or at night and walk around in it when temperatures are cooler.
