Why is this model so important?

The German trio – Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz – rules the roost in many market segments, even more so in the segment for medium-size prestige models where the A4, 3-Series and C-Class constantly battle it out for supremacy.

This segment is very much fuelled by early adopters for whom the latest technological advancements in their cars dictate the frequency of replacing one car with another, and again Audi has left no stone unturned – The A4 offers the very latest in on-board goodies to appeal to this market.

The A4 is not only the Audi with the longest history, but it is the brand’s top model line in terms of volume. The success story of the A4 began in 1972 under the name Audi 80. The A4 was given the name it carries today in 1994, at which time it was also brought to South Africa, and today is the most recognised and sold Audi across the globe.

The era of the ‘connected car’ is with us. Cars are increasingly becoming a centeroint of our plugged-in lives – the medium through which our phones, tablets and other mobile devices complement our lives. The A4 is a technological tour de force.

With so much riding on one model line, getting the basics right is non-negotiable. The new A4 is available in a series of 11 models with a choice of two petrol engines (1.4 and 2.0T FSI, a diesel 2.0 TDI) – some Quattro models, too. Compared with the previous model, fuel consumption has improved by up to 21% and engine power by up to 25%. Additionally, the new A4’S outer dimensions have grown, but weight has been reduced by up to 120 kilograms.

What’s the fuss about?

The A4 is now considered to be ahead of its peers in terms of infotainment and assistance systems. The high-tech experience is the result of an innovative synthesis of technology and aesthetics, with highlights including the Audi virtual cockpit, the Audi Matrix LED headlights and the Audi smartphone interface. Further, this model features Audi phone box – which connects certain smartphones to the on-board antenna and charges them inductively – the Bang & Olufsen Sound System with 3D sound, Audi connect services, the head-up display, and new driver assistance systems.

For the South Africa market this includes Audi active lane assist, Audi pre-sense, Audi side assist, the City Assistance package and the parking assistance package. Standard assistance systems include Audi pre-sense city, secondary collision brake assist, and the adjustable restraint system.

Trim lines include Standard, Sport and Design, the S line exterior package available to order on any model. The standard service plan is 5-year/100 000km.
