Why is this model so important?
Affordable cars with seating capacity for larger families and the taxi market are quite rare. There are very few players, most notably the Toyota Avanza and this one, Suzuki’s Ertiga.
What does this mean?
With lower base pricing than the Toyota, the Suzuki should appeal to a wider audience. In its latest guise, the 7-seater Ertiga boasts a higher level of equipment on the base GL model, negating the need for the GLX.
What’s the fuss about?
Suzuki has squeezed more specification into the Ertiga. Riding on a Suzuki Swift platform, this model has proven popular among South African families for its surprisingly large interior, its four-year service plan as standard, and sprightly 1.4 petrol engine. It offers a mix of car-like qualities like ride comfort with the versatility and space of an MPV.
It ticks all the boxes for a great family car, which include an immobiliser, air conditioning, electric power steering, two airbags, ABS brakes with electronic brake force distribution, rear-facing park distance control (PDC), an additional 12V socket in the middle console behind the front seats, and a third row bench that can split in a 50/50 configuration instead of folding down as one single unit. The integrated audio system now features Bluetooth as standard, which, when combined with the standard MP3, USB and iPod integration means that occupants can now access virtually any audio source, while also being able to make hands-free telephone calls.
