Strap yourselves in! The 2022 Knysna Simola Hillclimb is going to be one for the books

Just like Christmas, the Simola Hillclimb motoring spectacle only comes around once a year where petrolheads from all over the country come together to enjoy racing action.

For the first time since 2019, a total of 3 300 spectators will be allowed to catch a glimpse of the action a safe distance to enjoy a weekend’s worth of racing and to see who will eventually take the title of King of the Hill. This will be the 12th edition, which takes place from 6 to 8 May 2022 and featuring official participation from brands like Suzuki, Volkswagen, BMW and Shelby South Africa.

The Simola Hill presents a flowing, 1,9km track ideally suited to hill racing, and the on-track action starts with Classic Car Friday when spectacular cars from pre-war to 1985 take to the hill. The King of the Hill entrants’ car display takes place on the Friday morning, and the on-track action starts on the Saturday, concluding the festival on the Sunday.

Volkswagen South Africa has been eager to get involved in the Simola Hillclimb for several years and the 2022 event will serve as their participation . The brand’s GTC factory drivers (Daniel Rowe and Jonathan Mogotsi) will be piloting a pair of all-electric 100kW e-Golfs, while Production Car racing driver Graeme Nathan gets behind the wheel of the highly tuned Polo SupaCup race car.

Gumtree lists a couple of fast facts about the iconic annual event:
