2020 and 2021 has taught us a myriad of things. Within the fitness and health industry, though, the number one take-away is the importance of cleaning to eliminate the presence of harmful germs and bacteria.
If you are a yoga fanatic, how often do you clean your yoga mat? We are sure for many this is something that doesn’t often cross our minds. Sure, we use a towel to wipe up any sweat that may drip, but cleaning it any further is not usually something on the forefront of our minds, is it? For those of us with that mindset, our health may depend on us changing our outlook on this one!
Here is a quick and easy guide to cleaning your yoga mat so that you get the benefits of sanitization without too much of a hassle. Let’s work it into our routine, shall we?
- Clean your mat after every use.
- Grab an absorbent towel or old cotton t-shirt, a clean sponge, and a yoga mat cleaning solution. You should be able to purchase this type of solution at any of your local sports shops, or follow the next step the create your own.
- To create your own yoga mat cleaning solution, simply combine 5-10 drops of tea tree oil with ¼ cup of organic distilled white vinegar and ¾ cup of water.
- Once you have scrubbed your mat clean, towel dry it and then leave it somewhere with fresh circulating air, like out in your back garden, to get it to completely dry before you use it again.
Now that you’ve got the knowledge, it’s time to shop! Head to gumtree.co.za or your Gumtree app (click for Apple & Android) and don’t forget to use your location settings to find yoga mats close to home.
