No plans for Valentine’s? Cuddle up with that special someone and enjoy these date night flicks on Netflix

Just like Santa Claus comes to bring the good children presents on the 25th of December every year, so too does Cupid make his arrival in the month of love on 14 February – Valentine’s Day. Red roses and chocolates are undoubtedly the order of the day as people show their affection towards the special someone in their life.

Some men dread the day because it means they have to spend the cash on expansive dinners and gifts but in actual fact, females just want to spend some quality time and maybe enjoy something for the sweet tooth. Women love romantic movies and that will most likely be the most searched for category on Valentine’s Day.

Because the day is dedicated to love, it is also a popular day to pop the question. One survey reported that as many as 6-million couples get engaged on 14 February, compared to a birthday or another day of special significance.

Gone are the days of renting DVDs at Mr Video because everything has become digitised, giving the viewer full control over what they want to watch and when. With a massive user count of 222-million, Netflix has become one of the world’s most popular movie and series streaming services. You can watch Netflix on your smartphone, tablet, Smart TV, laptop, or any streaming device, all for one fixed monthly fee. Depending on the one you opt for, plans range from R49 to R199 a month.

The plethora of (romantic) movies available on Netflix means that there is no shortage of options to choose from. To make things a bit easier, Gumtree did all the hard work for you by scouring the Netflix romance section to list the top 10 movies (plus a short plot summary) to watch on Valentine’s Day.
