If you’re an aspiring singer, the question you may be hearing for the next few months in South Africa may be, “Do you have what it takes to be the next South African Idol?” 2014 auditions for season 9 of idols kicked off this week in Cape Town and the next stop will be in Johannesburg. What song are you going to sing at your audition to win over the judges?

Last year, Idols Season 8 achieved the highest viewing in the history of SA Idols, with more than 2.9 million votes entered. This year, you may audition if you are between the ages of 16 and 30 (bring a parent or guardian if you are under 18 years of age).

If you’re having a difficult time coming up with a song to sing, here are some popular tunes performed on past SA Idol seasons:

–       “And I am Telling You” by Jennifer Hudson

–       “Rock Steady” by Aretha Franklin

–       “Somebody That I Used to Know” by Gotye

And if you still can’t think of a song to sing during SA Idols, you can always sing a Tina Turner song or a tearjerker by Coldplay. It may be time to quit your day job and become a star!
