Looking for a fun party or social game to play with your friends aside from the regular UNO or 30 seconds? There are plenty of card games that you can enjoy that involve strategy, collecting and curating. Here are our top picks:
- Magic the Gathering
This was the game that started it all. Launched in 1993, there are over 20 million MTG players worldwide. While there’s a digital version available, more than 20 billion cards have been printed. Players can use various strategies to best one another using different “magics”, each with its own characteristics. Cast spells, summon creatures and thwart your enemies with surprise attacks. Decks aren’t standard, so you never know what’s coming your way.
2. Cards against Humanity
Cards Against Humanity is a party game in which players “complete fill-in-the-blank statements using words or phrases typically deemed as offensive, risqué or politically incorrect printed on playing cards”. It’s a game for self-described “horrible people” but results in plenty of laughs.
3. Exploding Kittens
Probably the first card game to be fully crowd-sourced, Matthew Inman from the comic site The Oatmeal tried to raise $10,000 to launch his game. It exceeded its goal in eight minutes, with 103,000 backers – the most in Kickstarter history. The game was created and launched in 2015. It’s a fun game for both adults and kids, and features drawings from the Oatmeal.
