Maintaining the Montessori Experience while on Holiday

After almost two years of restrictions, there seems to be a light at the end of the tunnel when you can think of travelling again. However, if you have little ones, the thought of disrupting a routine can be overwhelming for parents. Most parents still try and maintain a semblance of normalcy and routine even while travelling.

With the advent of the COVID-19 pandemic, several parents opted for an at-home Montessori learning experience for their children. But when you travel, what do you do? Gumtree helps you with tips and tricks to continue practicing the Montessori routine even on vacation.

  1.     There is no need to pack all their favourite toys to take along on holiday. After all, the Montessori experience encourages exploration and enjoying new experiences. Young children are excited to be in new places where they have never-before-seen objects to explore and play with.
  2.     When you think of Montessori learning, you picture beautifully curated shelves with sensory and exploratory toys. However, on vacation, don’t worry if you don’t have the quintessential shelf to line up the toys. If you are in a hotel or an Airbnb, arrange the toys on the floor in an organised manner and your child will be thrilled to see some of their old favourites even on holiday.
  3.     Montessori learning encourages the rotation of toys so children can retain interest during playtime. However, that does not mean you have to take a truckload of toys with you on vacation. Use one or two on the first days and then the next two for the next couple of days. Mix and match these with little trinkets from your vacation home and you are good to go.
