Motorists first got a taste of the NX in 2014 with the model going on to become one of Lexus’ best-selling models in the local portfolio. And now in 2022, the luxury Japanese brand is launching their latest iteration of the mid-size SUV.

EX and F Sport are the trim levels currently available with an SE derivative set to join the line-up at a later stage. The EX is powered by a normally aspirated 2.5-litre engine with total outputs of 152kW and 239Nm. The spicier F Sport has a force induced 2.4-litre engine that churns out 205kW and 430Nm. In each application, power is sent to the ground via an eight-speed automatic transmission.
The EX accelerates from 0-100km/h in 9.1-seconds, while the F Sport covers the same distance in 7.0-seconds.
The top-specced F Sport comes with features like 20-inch alloys, tri-beam LED headlights with adaptive high beam, heated and ventilated front seats, a panoramic view monitor, panoramic sunroof, 14.0-inch touch-display, 17-speaker Mark Levinson sound system, a digital rear-view mirror and Adaptive Variable Suspension – to name but a few.
Luxury and safety personified
The ‘entry level’ EX also boasts a stellar list that includes 18-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights with automatic high-beam, dual-zone climate control, power-adjustable and heated front seats, a 14-inch touch-display, DAB+ digital radio, “Hey Lexus!” natural speech recognition and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility.
Lexus has left no stone unturned in the safety department with features like Safe Exit Assist, Intersection Turn Assist, Emergency Steering Assist, Pedestrian and Daytime Cyclist Detection, Parking Support Brake with obstacle and vehicle detection, Blind-Spot Monitor and Dynamic Radar Active Cruise Control and Lane Tracing Assist.
There are nine body colours available and a further two options that is exclusive to the F Sport. In addition, there are three trim upholstery colours for the EX, while the F Sport can be kitted in black, white and flare red.
Pricing starts from R860 000 for the NX 250 EX and just over a million (R1 075 400) for the F Sport. All models come with a seven-year or 105 000km mechanical warranty and full maintenance plan.
