A Somerset West local is selling his one-of-a-kind ship-shaped wine cabinet.
Richard Nieder-Hietman (64) says he’s owned this highly unusual item for more than 20 years but is now selling it online via Gumtree: “I got the cabinet for my 40th birthday from a good friend but after my wife passed away last year I’m selling the house and need to clear things out.”
The handcrafted mahogany cabinet was made in India and Nieder-Hietmen says it always provokes a reaction: “When people first step into the house and come across this huge wooden ship in my living room, they’re surprised – and when I show them that it’s actually a wine cabinet, they’re flabbergasted.”
He hopes to get R60,000 for this unique item but is willing to drop to R45-50,000.
“Gumtree is known to give you great results and I am hoping that someone browsing the site will appreciate the cabinet’s special beauty,” comments Nieder-Hietman.
