We don’t all have an eye for award-winning interior design, but do all have our own unique styles, and whether you like to admit it or not, you take (or want to take) pride in your space, right? Unfortunately, there are costs that can add up quickly when it comes to decorating a home or even just one room.
Here are a few creative ideas to help you decorate a space you can be proud of without it costing an arm and a leg.
Consider Second-Hand. Gumtree has a whole bunch of listings for all things home related from beautiful vintage ottomans to a Corricraft couch that is only a few years old. Before heading down to your local home goods stores, checkout the listings in your area to see what is on offer. You might find the perfect piece at a fraction of the price.
Floor Models. Once you have made your way through Gumtree listings, if you are still in need of a few pieces, consider asking senior sales staff or managers of your local home goods stores if they would consider selling you the floor models at a discounted price. These pieces are often as good as new but with slight wear and tear from being touched or sat on every day by keen buyers.
Moving Sales. Doing a quick Google search will bring up multiple websites where you can sign up to receive notifications for moving sales. People who are moving overseas, for example, need to get rid of everything in their homes. This is a great way to snag some one-of-a-kind, quality stuff at a bargain.
DIY. If you are good with crafts and fixing things up, keep this in mind while you search through the Gumtree listings. You might find a few pieces that look like they need a little TLC; don’t discount these items right away. Check to see if perhaps you would be able to sand the wood, varnish it, and reupholster the seat cushion of a chair, for example.
Friends and Family. You may not like to ask for help, but you never know, you may have family or friends that have extra furniture laying around in their storage spaces or cluttering up rooms that they meant to sell or donate and just haven’t gotten around to it.
Grab a rug. A narrow statement rug is another great way to add some more colour and personality to your kitchen. Additionally, a rug can add warmth and some extra cushion for your feet.
