Searching for a new job can start out as an exciting process, but it can also turn ugly quickly if you find yourself getting rejection letter after rejection letter.
We have written quite a few articles on how to land your dream job, how to handle interviews like a boss, or how to get your CV noticed. But what if you’ve followed all those tips and tricks and still find yourself in a job search rut?
The number one sign that you’re in a bad place in your job search is if you have a negative mindset. At some point, negativity and a lack of belief in yourself and the process can actually sabotage your chances or getting the job you are wanting, or any job at all for that matter.
Of course, it is natural to become cynical or upset when you receive rejections from jobs you thought were a sure thing. If you find yourself actually expecting the next rejection, and not being surprised if it comes, you’re in a bad spot. The negative attitude will have likely been seen by hiring managers during the process, which ultimately affects your chances.
Here are a few simple things to actively work on to help improve your overall mindset during your job search:
- Start every day with gratitude. Make a small list of things you are grateful for.
- Get enough sleep every night. Don’t oversleep, or sleep too little; both can have negative effects on your mindset.
- Eat healthy foods, at least 80% of the time.
- Increase or get started with an exercise routine. This does not mean you need to start working out 7 days a week, but even a jog or walk each day will do wonders for your mental health.
