How to find the Right Bike Size for Kids

The day a child gets their first bike is always an exciting one, and chances are they will remember that day for their entire lives. While it may seem easy enough to head to a store and simply pick one that looks big or small enough for their size, or to go with the recommended age for that particular bike, there is actually a bit more to it than that. Finding the right size bike for your children will significantly reduce the risk of injury.

Here is everything you need to know.

  1. Kids bike sizes are based on wheel diameter, ranging from 12-26 inches. The larger the wheel size, the larger the frame.
  2. The best way to determine which size bike will work for your child is to measure their inseam and compare it to the height of the bike seat.
  3. Follow the guide below on which wheel size to choose based on your child’s inseam, their height, and their age.
  4. If multiple wheel sizes seem to correlate with the above-mentioned measurements, go with whichever is the largest; this will give your child room to grow with the bike.
