Here are the new Volkswagen models to look forward to in 2022

Just like the preceding months, Volkswagen had a stellar 2021 and they’re not letting their foot off the throttle – no pun intended. In 2022 they’re set to introduce a slew of brand-new models (Covid dependent), adding to an already impressive local line-up.

Alongside Toyota, the German automaker rules the roost when it comes to monthly sales and customer popularity. Customers are indeed spoilt for choice in every department whether its a bakkie, hot hatch or SUV.

The Polo and Polo Vivo derivatives lead the line as the brand’s best-sellers and as a matter of reference, the range sold a total of 2 829 units during the month of November.

Gumtree lists a few models to look forward to from the German automaker in 2022:

Volkswagen’s ‘T’ SUV family will get a whole lot bigger later this year when it welcomes the Taigo into the fold. Nothing concrete regarding spec and pricing is yet know about the coupe SUV but it will slot in between the T-Cross and T-Roc models in the range.

Golf R

After months of delay, the GTI was finally launched in South Africa in 2021 but the buck doesn’t stop there. The almighty Golf R will touch down on local soil around the middle of the year.

The Amarok bakkie is long overdue for a generation refresh and that is set to finally happen in 2022. It will be built at VW’s Kariega plant with an official launch to take place towards the end of the year.

Polo GTI

The facelifted Polo is already on sale at dealerships across the country but petrolheads all over will be looking forward to the pocket rocket version – the GTI. More is know about this particular model. For example, it uses a 2.0 TSI turbo-charged engine that delivers a power output of 147kW and maximum torque of 320Nm. The 0 to 100km/h sprint in completed in 6.7-seconds.
