Evidence to Gather When in a Car Accident

Regardless of the severity, being in a car accident can be immensely stressful, especially if you are not prepared in advance with what type of information to gather once it is all over. Even if the accident is minor, it is important to get as much information as possible while still at the scene.

  1. Contact Information. It is important to get the full names, ID numbers, licence numbers, and contact numbers of all other drivers involved. Additionally, don’t forget to write down the make and model of their vehicle, as well as the plate numbers.
  2. Police Report. Don’t forget to head to the police station as soon as you leave the scene. You’ll want to have a report of exactly what happened in case the situation gets messy and the other drivers want to make a claim.
  3. The Accident Scene. Take as many photographs of the scene and all vehicles involved. It won’t hurt to make some written notes, too.
  4. Witness Information. If there were any witnesses, whether they be cars that drive past or pedestrians on the sidewalk, you will want to flag them down to get their account of what they saw. If things get messy, having these testimonies on hand could come in handy!
