Furniture and art made from ordinary wooden pallets have become extremely popular, and this is probably because of how inexpensive it is to produce.
You are able to make a table, seating, wall hangings, even a bed base for less than R500.
Stacking three pallets on top of each other gives you have a rustic coffee table for your living room. Or, you can go more complex and actually build something.
Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to build your own display table, for no more than R150, with a little help from Gumtree.
What you’ll need:
- Four pallets
- A jigsaw
- Suitable wood varnish
Cut your pallets in half for a more suitable size side table. Be sure to cut on the outside of the middle blocks that hold the space between the back and front boards.
By stacking four of these halves on top of each other, you have a table.
Sand all the pallets down, removing splinters and rough edges. Once you’ve sanded it down, sweep away any excess dirt and dust.
To finish it off, varnish the pallets – this will prolong the life of your table and give it a finished look.
**Pallets are available on Gumtree for around R20 each.
