Baby on the way? These are ‘must have’ items to prepare for when the little one arrives

For a couple, there’s nothing more exciting than welcoming a new member to the family and thus becoming parents. Waking up in the middle of the night and watching repetitive episodes of Peppa Pig will become the order of the day as the little one starts to grow up.

Fortunately, there is a nine month period of preparation to make sure everything is in order. It certainly helps to have a checklist of the items already bought and others that have yet to be bought. Perhaps the only nervous moment is when the parents get told what the gender of the baby is at the gynecologist.

Baby showers also provide a helping hand to expectant couples because the people attending will usually buy a variety of products like bottles, blankets or changing tables. While there is nothing wrong with receiving a couple of ‘hand me down’ items, there are some that have to be purchased brand new to ensure safety and hygiene.

Gumtree lists some of the ‘must have’ items to prepare for when the little one arrives:

Clothing

This is generally one of the first items, often bought in bulk, and is very cheap because of the size of a newborn baby. The clothing inventory should more or less consist of one-piece pajamas, sweaters, socks and onesies.

Baby carrier bag

When on the go, having a bag with all baby’s essentials is important. Most baby bags can accommodate quite a few items like bottles, diapers, food and extra pieces of clothing.

Diapers

Be sure to have enough diapers to go around because they have a tendency to go very quickly and they can get pricey as well. Most parents opt to use disposable diapers and it is also good to purchase rash cream to go with it just to be safe.

Feeding equipment

During the newborn stage, babies eat and drink very often so making sure you a good supply of bibs and burp cloths is important. The equipment you buy also depends on whether you breast or bottle-feed your baby.

Nursery basics

Setting up baby’s space is perhaps the most exciting for parents to make sure everything is perfect. Besides painting the walls, items like the crib, changing dresser and laundry basket can all be found in the nursery.
