We have received reports that an email is doing the rounds asking our users to submit their banking or credit card details as part of a Gumtree security check. The email is sent from “firstname.lastname@example.org” and states that customers’ accounts will be suspended if they do not follow a link and submit financial information. Please be aware that this is a phishing scam attempting to obtain credit card information.
Gumtree will never ask you to confirm banking or credit card information over the phone or via email. Gumtree will not suspend any user account that adheres to our policies.
If you do receive such an email, please delete it and do not respond. If you have received such an email and submitted your banking or credit card details to them, please notify your bank immediately and inform them that you may have been the victim of a phishing scam.
