Although not officially (yet), summer is definitely upon us with its beautiful, sunny weather. What does this mean? Many of us are gearing up for some local weekend getaways, especially this year as we all try to escape the stresses of everyday life during a global pandemic. If camping or road tripping in a motorhome is on the bucket list, here are a few things you should consider before purchasing.
- Do you have a good idea of how many people will be tagging along? It may only be two people this time, but will more family or close friends join later on this summer? Being unprepared with space could mean the difference between you spending a night inside your motorhome, or giving up your spot and spending a chilly evening under the stars.
- How comfortable will you feel driving and parking this size motorhome? Will it feel like you are driving a semi-truck or tourist bus? Would you prefer something a bit more compact that perhaps has sides that extend to add the extra space? If the thought of driving such a large vehicle scares you, consider getting something smaller. If driving it thrills you, perhaps a big guy is the way to go!
- Don’t forget that insurance premiums will be larger than on your regular vehicles, so make sure you get a few quotes before you purchase the motorhome. You will want to make sure the premiums are affordable on top of all the other costs.
Now that you’ve got the knowledge, it’s time to shop! Head to gumtree.co.za or your Gumtree app (click for Apple & Android) and don’t forget to use your location settings to find a motorhome close to home.
