The holidays are upon us, and while we all deserve a much-needed break, staying on top of your job search over this period could mean the difference between starting the New Year off on a good or bad foot. Spending some time to update your CV and portfolio and take advantage of the hiring frenzie that often comes along before the new year could yield some amazing results.
- Create a portfolio or refresh an existing one. If the global pandemic has taught us anything, it’s that being digitally savvy will get you a lot farther in life than if you are not. Having a digital portfolio of projects you have worked on in the past is the perfect way to demonstrate your skills before meeting anyone face to face. It will do a great job of helping you stand out from the crowd, too.
- Network over holiday events. While events are limited this year, and the events that are still happening have less people than usual, these events can still be a great place to meet like-minded people, while also getting in a little TLC. Interacting with business owners, hiring managers, recruiters, business people, and other job seekers is a great way to stay in the game, but if you simply are not comfortable with events this year, calling a friend or mentor for advice and inspiration can help a lot, too.
- Be wise with your social media accounts. While you may attend a few intimate dinner parties over the holidays and have one too many glasses of champagne to celebrate, posting drunken pictures on Instagram will not look great to potential employers. Don’t be fooled, most hiring managers or employers look into these things to get an idea of the type of person you are before inviting you for an interview.
