2016 KIA Sportage

Trust Peter Schreyer to do it again. Since the renowned German auto designer joined the Hyundai-Kia group, he has penned one stunning design after another. The latest Sportage must count as one of the most eye-catching designs on the road today.

Why is this model so important?

Medium-sized SUVs like the Sportage have become the model of choice for much of the world’s car buyers. It is the volume segment where a carmaker’s fortunes are made or broken. Getting it wrong is not an option.

What does this mean?

Kia and its engineers pulled all stops to make the Sportage (and sister brand’s Hyundai Tucson) as compelling an argument as possible. High quality materials abound, as well as greater practicality and a range of technologies to improve comfort, convenience, connectivity and safety. A range of new and updated engines and transmissions result in enhanced efficiency and performance, while ride, handling and refinement are all improved.

What’s the fuss about?

Apart from the great looks of the latest model, highlights include greater refinement levels and higher quality trim for the cabin, greater passenger comfort thanks to more space and less noise, much higher levels of safety with a stronger body and new active safety tech, and convenience features such as wireless phone charging.

Passengers not only enjoy more legroom, but the seats have been redesigned. Stiffer seat frames, with greater use of high tensile steel, and redesigned springs and pads – for front and rear – cut the level of vibration in the seats. Six airbags are standard. A Smart Power Tailgate, which opens the tailgate automatically when the key is sensed in close proximity to the tailgate, is standard on higher specification models.

A new range of petrol and diesel engines with manual or auto ‘boxes, as well as a 5-year / unlimited km warranty, 5-year / unlimited km roadside assistance and 5-year / 90 000km service plan complete the picture..
